The Mill
The Mill was an audio experience that connected people to place.
Created for English Heritage Site Saxstead Green Post Mill in Suffolk, The Mill was an audio experience that connected people to place. Accessed via a telephone call, visitors could listen to an intimate and personal experience that playfully explored the history and heritage of the mill and the people who lived and worked there.
English Heritage wanted the creation of an audio experience to support the interpretation of the Saxstead Green Post Mill. At the time the Mill was going through significant conservation work and they wanted this project to be a celebration of its history.
We worked with English Heritage to explore the history of the mill and spoke to the current custodian of the mill who lived on site about his unique story. From this research it was clear that each custodian who had looked after the mill had a strong personal connection with it and treated and talked about the Mill as if it were a person.
Working with yello brick Associate writer, Sara Lewis we crafted the narrative to be from the perspective of the mill. A personal phone call in which she shares stories of the past and her unique viewpoint on life as well as directing the listener to look at certain things within the space.
