Extinct was a roaming experience that combined technology, game and theatrical happenings bespokely created for Wales Millennium Centre’s Festival of Voice.

WMC’s Festival of Voice is a celebration of live music, thought-provoking performance and inspirational talks. We were commissioned to create an experience that was aimed at 18 - 25 year olds , a demographic that WMC wanted to encourage to engage more with the festival.

Extinct asked the question ‘what if technology could speak for us?’ A scenario based on the increasing use of technology in our everyday lives, the cultural divides it creates and ownership of digital assets. It explored how technology has enabled amazing advances in the ways in which we live, work and communicate but ultimately at what cost?

Extinct has been incredible. You’ve produced something engaging, thought provoking and most importantly fun! …..It’s been a joy and a pleasure to work with you and has produced such a brilliant outcome.
— Ramzi Youssef, Creative Learning Assistant Producer, Wales Millennium Centre

The story was set in the not too distant future where technology has advanced to the point of being able to speak for us, identify our preferences and learn our patterns of behaviour.  Our in-world company Hybrid Industries had created the ‘Alpha Omega‘ (AO), a digital personal assistant that could talk for you using your own unique voice print. In the week’s leading up to the experience product posters for the AO appeared across the city as well as the launch of a new Hybrid Industries shop in one of the main shopping centres in Cardiff.

Audiences were invited by Hybrid Industries to be the first to try their amazing new product. Through a bespokely made mobile application that acted as the AO technology, audiences were taken on an interactive journey that merged digital and live elements around the city of Cardiff.

Things seem straight forward until something happens……

Who are Deviant and what do they want?
